The first event of the day was to get the camper cabinets cleaned out and make an inventory. The old owner left quite a few things inside so we decided to sort through what was trash and what we should keep. Turn out there was a lot of trash but some good stuff too, like a few roasting forks the kids will be pumped about that.
Once the big stuff was sorted we decided to get it ready for sitting all winter. We first filled the water tank and made sure that the water pump works. We don't have a hot water heater, toilet, or shower so this was very easy just making sure we could get water in the small kitchen sink... and what do you know it works! So now drain the freshly filled tank. We then added about 2 gallons of RV antifreeze sounds like this should be enough but I will let you know if our pipes cracked! We pumped the antifreeze through until the kitchen sink ran with pink water. Click the image for a cheap place to purchase this online.

After we got the water system taken care of it was time for pest control. We sprayed down some temp of bugs (child and pet safe). But what about the rodents? I hate the smell of moth balls and I really don't like putting poison somewhere where my children or pets can get a hold of it... so what do you use in something you plan to sleep in next summer? Well some ranchers suggested I give Fresh Cab Rodent Repellent a try a few years back, guess what it works great! You have to replace it every 3 months or so but who cares it smells like cedar and keeps the mice out of our precious "Little Bugger". If you click on the picture it will take you to a site online where you can get it fairly cheap, we picked ours up at the local Farm and Fleet.
Well that's about it, right? WRONG ugh found a lovely leak in the roof while exploring the storage found that the cushions and bench were wet in the dinette, from our rainy windy drive home no doubt. Well that means we climb up on the roof and get a better look... dun dun dun looks like we might have some work to do... it looks as if someone got a little crazy with sealant goop. Looks like next weekend we will be replacing a vent or 2 and resealing all the seams I will definitely take some pictures of that! Although I do have good news, there is no obvious holes in the roof.
After changing the rear brake light Trevor suggested we do a closer inspection of the exterior and it seems we may have a few siding panels to replace, one or 2 had cracks and one was missing all together. If you have done a remodel before I'm sure your going to scream at me in comments and tell me to replace all rotten wood but I'm not sure we are going to take that much on YET, we will be making the big sucker water tight for the winter and worry about some of the tough stuff next year... Along with our inspection we also found that the rear storage basket was full of rotted wood, yuck I suppose we can clean that out this weekend.
Stay tuned for the campers big reveal to the kids and getting some of the simple repairs done in between working on the new to us 58 Ford F100...
