What is the Blocker/Aussie Tie Ring?
My Solution!
What need:
- A 5 inch snaffle bit
- A Carabiner
- An I hook or other mounting ring for the wall
- A grinder (or something else to cut and smooth metal)
- 2 small round magnets (OPTIONAL)
Now the tough part... I convinced my husband to take the bit out to the shop and cut it in half, with his grinder :) I don't have any pictures of the process but I will try to explain it for you.
First decide what side of the bit you will be using, I like having the flat half of the bit against the ring like in the picture. Then I had my husband carefully cut the other side of the bit with the grinder to release the side I wanted to use for the tie ring, It just so happened he was also able to smooth the other side enough that he made me two tie rings.. You attach your carabiner and hook it to the wall and TADA!!! complete!!!! If you want to give your ring MagLock because your horse figured out how to get out (which isn't easy) simply hot glue a magnet onto your bit... I will be posting pictures of the finished product soon but for a price comparison... $5 for the bit, and $2.50 for the carabiner/spring link The bit made 2 rings so my total cost per ring was $5, you could cut that even more if you have some old rusted bits in the barn! So you do the math!
